Lord Celestant ready for war!

Hello there! So, I'm continuing to work my way through the Age of Sigmar starter set and got to the point where I could no longer look at him sitting there. I had to paint him!

I knew from the start he would be a challenge, considering it is only the third model I've painted. It was also extra challenging due to the fact I was using my new Anvils of the Heldenhammer scheme and there is surprisingly little out there to use as a guide. Having said that, I enjoy a challenge and there's a real sense of achievement in making your own choices and having to think about what colours work with each other, rather than just copying someone elses work.

Having been on the sidelines for so long, only really reading battle reports and lore/fluff, I must admit I was a bit concerned if I would actually enjoy the painting part of this hobby, because lets face it, it is a huge part of it. My fears were crushed under the rampaging feet of this Dracoth as I had a blast painting this guy, I couldn't put him down!

As daunting as it is to get started in this hobby, especially when you look at the standard of painting some people produce, it really is all about practise and picking up techniques. Having painted only three models I already feel a leap in confidence going into my next one from starting out. Numerous people have told me time and again to just keep painting, paint as much as you can and you will get there. So I'm going to stick by those wise words and keep on painting!

Thanks for reading!

Anvils of the Heldenhammer

As I've mentioned before, I'm slowly painting my way through the Age of Sigmar starter set. I have been trying to decide on a colour scheme for my Stormcast Eternals as I want something a bit different from the stock blue and gold. After having a look through multiple variants, I've settled on the Anvils of Heldenhammer! I really like the black, gold and red contrast, its really simple but very effective I think.

So this is the first model I've painted without any guidance. I had a quick look at the basic colours and went to it, trying to pick colours, I thought, would best suit the model. I'd love your thoughts on it.

I've had a lot of trouble trying to pick a highlight colour for my Khorne red, Screamer Pink just didn't contrast enough to work. Any tips?

What's your favourite Stormcast chamber?

Liberating Painting

After years of procrastinating and watching from the sidelines, I have finally finished painting my first model. As ridiculous as this sounds its actually a very big moment for me. I have loved wargaming since a young age and especially Games Workshop ranges (as I'm sure most of us do) and with the new releases it just made sense for me to jump in and get started.

Recently, I got the Warhammer: Age of Sigmar starter set for my birthday (yay) and I've been slowly putting the models together - still having trouble with mould lines and how best to get rid of them, any tips appreciated! - then Games Workshop released the "Getting started in Age of Sigmar" magazine. Wow, this was perfect for me and I highly recommend everyone pick it up, new or seasoned player, as this covers all the fluff, rules and painting tips galore. Not to mention, a free Liberator which was perfect for me.

After building my Stormcast Eternals from the starter set, I was contemplating on a colour scheme and since I'm very new to painting I was hoping to have a test model, so this freebie was perfect! I followed the tutorial on Warhammer TV youtube channel and was quite happy with the results.

I really feel like, although I was following a guide, I picked up a lot of good information about painting and while I'm not entirely happy with the results (struggles of a perfectionist), for a first attempt, I'm happy. I made some mistakes and did struggle at points; highlighting is something I definitely need to work on and would love some advice on that.
I used the Agrellan Earth texture paint for the base, but since I knew it would crack I thought I would paint the base Mephiston Red underneath first, so it would show through, and I'm happy with the results.
Like I said, this is my first fully painted model and I would really appreciate some constructive feedback or comments.
 Happy painting/gaming!
